Tank Maintenance & Protection publishes practical, inspection-based guides on checklists, leak prevention, tank covers, and the care of overhead and underground tanks, written for the people responsible for them.
Our method
How we approach choosing the right tank cover
A cover is part of protecting the tank, so we start with the setup itself: the tank material, its installation location, and the conditions around it. Fit and condition come first. We look at whether the cover seats evenly, whether edges and seams stay sealed, and whether openings keep out light, debris, and insects without restricting access for inspection.
Recommendations are written to adapt to local climate and installation, not to a single standard. Where a cover choice depends on exposure or load, we say so plainly and describe what to check rather than promising a result.
Inspection framework
Three steps we use to judge tank condition
01
Inspect the structure
Examine the tank walls, joints, and fittings for visible wear, staining, or movement, and note exactly where any change appears.
02
Check the cover and access
Confirm the cover fits, its seals are intact, and openings are protected, since contamination often enters through a poorly maintained cover.
03
Assess contamination risk
Review water clarity, odour, and the surrounding conditions, then record findings before deciding on any next maintenance step.
